The Family and Medical Leave Act (Federal law) and the CFRA California Family Care Act (State law) provide 12 weeks (480 hours) of unpaid leave when an employee or a member of the employee’s immediate family has a serious health condition, or when the employee has a newborn, adopts, or has a foster child. This leave can be taken intermittently or for a consecutive period of time.
