Credentialed teachers

Eligible to receive year-for-year credit for verified outside teaching experience. The maximum step placement for a new teacher with a Bachelor’s is step 13.

The maximum step placement for a new teacher with a Bachelor’s + 30 semester units is step 12. 

The maximum step placement for a new teacher with a Bachelor’s + 60 semesters units is step 11.

Steps listed on the salary schedule beyond those above are considered ‘career increments’ and are earned/awarded for years of service as a teacher at SFUSD.

Intern credential teachers

Eligible to receive year-for-year credit for verified outside teaching experience; a maximum of 5 years may be accepted under this credential type. 

If you have more than 5 years of outside teaching experience and become fully credentialed later, the salary office will apply the years of verified/ accepted outside teaching experience above the 5 year maximum to your salary placement in your credentialed position. This is not a retroactive placement.

Emergency credential teachers

Ineligible to claim outside teaching experience. New teachers to the District with an emergency credential will be placed at step 1, however, they will receive service credit for each year worked with the District. Similar to intern credential teachers, if you become fully credentialed later, the salary office will apply the years of verified/accepted outside teaching experience to your salary placement in the credentialed position. This is not a retroactive placement.
